Measuring The Economy With A Harvard Indicator, What Jobs Are Students Taking

There is a super interesting chart embedded below. It measures what percentage of Harvard graduates are either going into the finance or consulting sectors.

Generally speaking, these 2 sectors are notorious for massive workloads and even bigger salaries. At its peak, right before the financial crisis, more than 45% of all Harvard graduates were entering the finance or consulting sectors. Now, nearly 7 years later, a little more than 30% are.

Here is how that number has changed over the years and what it might mean. This simple barometer could be a quick way to gauge the health of our economy. Is it robust? Is it just perfect? Or is it becoming maniacal?
