Only One Olympic Athlete Ever Won A Gold Medal In Both The Winter and Summer Olympics. Here's Who It Is

His name is Eddie Eagan.

He is the only American athlete to ever win a gold medal at both the Summer and Winter Olympic Games. He did it in completely different events too.

Eagan won his summer gold medal for the U.S. boxing team. He won his winter gold medal in the four-man bobsled team.

His story is remarkable, too:
Starting life as the poor son of a railroad worker, he served with honor in World War I, put himself through Yale and then Harvard Law, became a Rhodes scholar and married into the ludicrously wealthy Colgate family. He then volunteered for service again during World War II and, upon his return, served six years as the chairman of the New York State Athletic Commission. - (BR)
